Crafting and Workbenches on Asgard

Almost every blueprint on Asgard is unlocked from the moment you spawn, with no research needed. The handful we held back are listed when you type /bps in chat. Turrets and traps are on that list, and so are barricades and external walls. Before you plan a base around turret coverage, we'd give that list a read.

Blueprints reset with the map on the force wipe, the first Thursday of the month, though with almost everything free that only touches the /bps list.

How fast things craft

Basic items finish the moment you press craft, provided the materials are already in your inventory. Guns and ammo come out 10x faster than they do in vanilla, and resources do too. After a lost fight, getting a new gun and a stack of rifle ammo out of your bench takes a few seconds, which we think is about the right amount of downtime for a 10x server.

One bench for the building

While you're authorized on the TC, you craft at the level of the best workbench in your base from any room in it. A tier 3 bench tucked away in a back room still lets you make tier 3 items while standing at the front door. We're big fans of this, since the bench no longer has to take up the middle of the floor plan, where it used to eat space you had other plans for.

Teammates get TC auth automatically, and the bench level comes along with it without anyone pressing authorize. If a player leaves the team, they lose that auth and the crafting access that came with it.

The Odin rank's daily kit has a tier 3 workbench in it, and the rest of that kit is listed on the store.

Before you have a bench

The Outpost, our own safe-zone town, sits on every map, and typing /outpost takes you there as long as you aren't raid or combat blocked. Its workshop has the stations a fresh spawn is missing:

  • a T2 workbench
  • repair and research
  • a mixing table and a refinery
  • 2 recyclers

In the first few minutes of a wipe, when your pockets are full of components and there's nowhere to craft or recycle them, that workshop is where we'd head. Nobody can build near the Outpost, though, so it won't work as a home.

Smelting and the early pile

Gather rates are 10x, and every furnace type smelts 30x faster now, with campfires and the refinery included. Smelting used to run at 10x like gathering, and we raised it to 30x in October. Stack sizes went up as well, with resources stacking to 25,000 and medkits, syringes and bandages to 25, while food stops at 100.

The free kits take a decent bite out of the early farming. Once per wipe, /kit starter hands out 10,000 wood, 10,000 stone, 5,000 metal fragments, 1,000 cloth, a tool cupboard, a bed, a sheet metal double door, 2 sheet metal doors and 4 code locks. If you link Discord, the Discord kit adds 10,000 wood, 10,000 stone, 1,000 frags and 250 HQM, along with an MP5, roadsign armor and 500 cloth. You can also spend points in /shop on resources, and the Builder kit costs 104 points there.

Upgrading what you build

Two commands that come with every rank do most of the heavy lifting for builders. Turn on /bgrade and each piece you place goes up already upgraded, while /upall moves the whole base up a tier with a single command. Both still charge the normal resource cost for every piece. Neither one works while you're raid blocked, a 5 minute window after explosives hit your base or you blow into someone else's, because raid block now covers building and upgrading too. Both commands stay on for as long as your rank is active, and you'll find the ranks in the ranks section of the store.
